About Patrick
Patrick W. Huested has spoken professionally since 2015 for several national seminar companies on leadership and management topics in front of hundreds of audiences.
He is a retired U.S. Air Force officer, with a BS in electrical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, and an MBA from Pepperdine University, in Malibu, California.
In his military career, he brought aircraft and space acquisition programs to the warfighter and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq. His last assignment was Chief Information Officer for approximately 2,000 personnel at the Kirtland AFB location of two Air Force Research Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He’s also a former vice president for a manufacturing company.
His first book, Merit’s Fulcrum: What’s Wrong with the U.S. Air Force’s Officer Evaluation System…and How to Fix It is a deep work investigating pitfalls and improvement opportunities of the USAF's officer evaluation and promotion system and was released in 2017. His second book, The Hard Skills of Leadership: Master the Twelve Fundamental Skills of Systematic Organizational Leadership Success, will be released in 2024.
Born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio, he now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
American companies spent over $100B on employee leadership training in 2023. Despite that money and time, executives are generally unimpressed with the results. Why is that? Because typical leadership training focuses on improving charisma and character rather than teaching time-proven processes and competencies required to run teams and generate mission results.
